Plant Description
Tomato ‘Gardeners’ Delight’ is a classic and very popular heirloom variety, widely
loved by both amateur and experienced gardeners for its reliable performance and
delicious fruit. They are slightly larger than typical cherry tomatoes, with a single
plant producing a heavy crop of red fruits with excellent flavour. Its reliability,
sweetness, and abundance make it a favourite in gardens. This versatile variety can
be grown outdoors or in a cold greenhouse, providing a long season of tasty, bite-
sized tomatoes.
Plant outdoors or in a cold greenhouse after the last frost, usually in late May or early
June. Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with rich, well-drained soil for outdoor planting,
or a bright position in a greenhouse. Gardeners’ Delight also thrives in large patio
containers or growbags.
As an indeterminate (cordon) variety, the plants grow tall and benefit from support.
Tie the main stems to canes or strings and regularly remove side shoots to focus the
plant’s energy on fruit production. Keep the soil consistently moist, watering at the
base to reduce disease risk. Feed weekly with a high-potash tomato fertiliser once
the first fruits begin to set.
Fruits usually ripen from July through September. Regular harvesting of ripe, red
tomatoes encourages continuous production, rewarding gardeners with a long,
productive season of flavoursome tomatoes.
