Plant Description

Primula veris in Bright Yellow,  commonly known as cowslip, is a beloved British and European spring flower. This particular variety, Primula veris 'Bright Yellow', produces vivid, sunshine-yellow blooms with a soft, subtle yellow centre. Its cheerful appearance makes it a welcome sight in late winter and early spring, and it is often seen in the wild, brightening up meadows, grassy verges, and woodland edges.

The plant forms a neat, compact base of softly crinkled green leaves, while flower stems rise gracefully to a height of around 15–20 cm. These sturdy little plants begin flowering from late February to early March and are winter hardy.

In terms of growing conditions, Primula (or polyanthus) veris thrives in its natural woodland-like environment. It enjoys dappled sunlight beneath trees or shrubs, though it will also do well in full sun, provided the soil is kept consistently moist but not waterlogged. Whether planted in the ground or in pots on a balcony, this versatile variety prefers soil that retains moisture while still draining well. If growing in containers, take care not to overwater, particularly in full sun — a position with morning sun and light afternoon shade is ideal.

Perfect for cottage gardens, spring borders, and naturalistic plantings, Primula veris 'Bright Yellow' brings warmth and colour just when it’s most needed. With its early blooms and sunny disposition, it’s a joyful announcement that the growing season has begun.

What does pot diameter mean?

Pot diameter is measured along the top of each pot to give an indication of overall plant size on arrival.

We only offer plants in 13cm or 11cm pots. This means that plants are established and ready to be planted straight into your garden as soon as they arrive.

*Our specially designed boxes require no plastic inners. The plant pots are (recyclable) plastic.
