Plant Description
Primula veris is a striking, novelty-coloured cowslip that begins flowering in late February or early March, making it one of the first signs that spring is on its way. This vibrant variety features rich burnt orange petals with a deep golden yellow eye and a bright yellow centre, creating a warm and cheerful display during the often still-chilly transition from winter.
The plant forms a compact clump, with upright flower stems that rise neatly from a base of green foliage. The flowers are arranged in a circular pattern, forming a classic basal rosette that gives the plant a well-structured and tidy appearance.
Primula Veris thrives in its natural woodland setting, growing happily beneath trees or shrubs where it can enjoy dappled light. However, it adapts beautifully to other environments too, and is perfectly suited to containers on balconies or patios. It prefers morning sun with a touch of afternoon shade, and it’s important to maintain moist but well-drained soil, avoiding soggy conditions that could harm the roots.
These charming early bloomers are ideal for outdoor bedding schemes and look wonderful when combined with other spring plants. As one of the first perennials to flower after the frosts, Primula Veris truly announces the arrival of the growing season, bringing colour, life, and a sense of renewal to any garden setting.
