Plant Description
Primrose ‘Obsidian’ is a striking member of the Primula family, known for its hardiness and vibrant display. This compact, elegant plant is capable of withstanding temperatures as low as -16°C, making it a resilient choice for early spring colour.
Its intensely dark green leaves form the perfect backdrop for the bold purple blooms, creating a vivid contrast that stands out in any garden setting. Naturally compact and tidy, it thrives in a variety of locations—especially those that mimic its native woodland environment.
For best results, plant in cool, moist, partially shaded spots. Primroses are particularly happy near ponds or streams, where conditions replicate the damp, dappled habitats they love. Be sure to space plants appropriately and use soil that remains consistently moist, but never waterlogged or bone dry.
According to ancient folklore, primroses were believed to be enchanted flowers, marking hidden gateways to the fairy realm. A cluster of primroses was said to reveal a portal between worlds—a magical boundary between nature and myth.
