Plant Description
With over 500 species in the primrose family, Primula ‘Obsidian’ is a standout variety. It is hardy down to -16°C and shows excellent resistance to botrytis, a common fungal disease. The intensely dark green foliage creates a striking contrast against the rich, deep blue flowers, making it a beautiful addition to any garden.
Caring for Primula ‘Obsidian’ is straightforward, and it’s a true delight to watch these vibrant blooms appear—one of the first signs that winter is ending and spring is on its way.
For best results, plant in partial shade. These primroses enjoy sunlight but should be protected from intense, direct heat. Keep the soil moist but well-drained, and space plants about 6 to 12 inches apart to allow for healthy growth and airflow.
According to ancient folklore, primroses were believed to mark the entrance to the fairy realm. Discovering a patch of them in bloom was thought to signal a portal between two worlds, where the magical and the natural meet.
