Plant Description

Increasing interest in these chilli varieties, Demon Red  is another relatively compact chilli plant, suitable for a window ledge, or patio. It can be planted in a glasshouse environment direct in soil, but it does form a very compact plant. It is small enough to be grown in a 9cm diameter pot on a window sill.  When it produces chillis, the fruits look attractive, are between 2-3cm in length, having a colour range of green and red.  It does produce multi  fruits, which point upwards, and is again  ideal for spicing up your culinary dishes, whilst forming an attractive feature in your living space. You can dry the fruits for long term storage, they are ideal for chopping up to create  chilli flakes, which can be added to cooked food, but again remember the name of this chilli and treat with respect.

Scoville Heat Scale

The heat and taste of chilli peppers is measured in Scoville heat units (shu). This is defined as the number of times a chilli extract needs to be diluted in water for it to lose its heat. At the low end, a bell sweet pepper has a shu of zero, that is there is no heat to the pepper flesh. At the other end of the scale a pure capsacin has a shu rating of 15 million. You need to be a real expert to be able to eat this and enjoy it.

If you find the food you have spiced is too hot to enjoy, you can always deaden the heat by applying yoghurt to the meal.

Demon Red: 50,000-100,000 shu

What does pot diameter mean?

Pot diameter is measured along the top of each pot to give an indication of overall plant size on arrival.

We only offer plants in 13cm or 11cm pots. This means that plants are established and ready to be planted straight into your garden as soon as they arrive.

*Our specially designed boxes require no plastic inners. The plant pots are (recyclable) plastic.
