Cucumber 'Carmen'

We have grown this cucumber for a number of years. It is a high yielding plant, which produces particularly long ribbed fruit. Planted in a glasshouse environment, the fruit is good sized, and more importantly, sweet to eat, whether it be in a salad, sandwich or in a Pimms cocktail.

The variety has good resistance to all known strains of powdery mildew, scab, and leaf spots. It does respond to good levels of fertiliser nutrition, and a regular supply of irrigation water. You have to watch out for aphid and white fly, but these can be controlled by normal pest management techniques.

It is always a joyous moment when you harvest your first cucumber, summer will have truly arrived. We are sticking with this variety for the next season, as it has proved durable as a plant.
