Description

These high-quality chives have a neat, upright habit with fine, velvety leaves that are silvery-green, aromatic, and perfect for growing in pots or in the ground. Their elegant foliage makes them as attractive as they are useful in the kitchen.

Chives prefer full sun, ideally at least 6 hours a day. They will tolerate a small amount of shade, although growth will be slower. Water when the top of the compost feels dry and avoid letting the plant sit in soggy soil.

When harvesting, cut with scissors around 2–3 cm above soil level. Take a good handful rather than snipping individual blades, as regular cutting encourages fresh, tender new growth. Never strip the plant completely — always leave some green growth behind.

Chives are happy in containers or planted directly into the garden. When grown in the ground, they will naturally die back over winter and return with fresh growth in spring. Feed lightly, around once a month during the growing season, as they are not heavy feeders. An easy-to-grow, flavoursome addition to any herb garden.

What does pot diameter mean?

Pot diameter is measured along the top of each pot to give an indication of overall plant size on arrival.

We only offer plants in 13cm or 11cm pots. This means that plants are established and ready to be planted straight into your garden as soon as they arrive.

*Our specially designed boxes require no plastic inners. The plant pots are (recyclable) plastic.
